Brock Duke graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors Degree in Economics (1998) with an emphasis in Law and a Masters Degree in Economics (2000). In 2003 he graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Law.
Criminal Law Experience
Upon graduation from Law School, Mr. Duke immediately began practicing criminal law. Knowing that he intended to focus his career in the field of criminal law, Brock decided to work as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney prosecuting all types of crimes in the state of Texas. He began at the Van Zandt Criminal District Attorney’s office in rural east Texas. For almost two (2) years, he worked on hundreds of criminal cases. These ranged from DWI to murder. During this time he experienced high levels of success as a trial attorney and was promoted to First Assistant within the office. Part of his duties included handling all Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) cases that occurred in Van Zandt County. Brock Duke personally handled close to one hundred (100) DWI cases during this time and had a 99% DWI conviction rate.
Gaining Valuable DWI Trial Knowledge
Brock Duke left the Van Zandt County District Attorney’s Office and joined the prosecution team at the highly regarded Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office in McKinney. He was quickly promoted to Court Chief and focused almost solely on Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) cases. His skills and knowledge continued to grow as he personally oversaw the prosecution of hundreds of DWI cases. In addition to handling individual cases, Brock’s duties grew to training other prosecutors on how to successfully obtain criminal convictions and evaluate criminal cases.
Brock Duke was then offered a job at the most respected Criminal District Attorney’s Offices in the state of Texas. He took his experience and skills to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office in Fort Worth. It was here that he had the opportunity to work under and learn from one of the nation’s leading DWI prosecutors in the country. For two (2) years, Mr. Duke was trained by and reported directly to the premier DWI prosecutor in the state of Texas. This man has written books that are disseminated to all prosecutors in Texas and speaks frequently around the country on DWI prosecution. His publications and resources are available from the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association.
Brock Duke spent over six years as a prosecutor working to put criminals in Texas prisons. He attended multiple trial skills seminars and schools put on by the Texas District and County Attorney's Association, some of which are available only to prosecutors. They included but are not limited to the Texas Homicide Symposium, TDCAA Trial Skills Seminar, TDCAA Advanced Trial Skills Seminar, and countless hours of DWI education courses. In addition, he personally trained prosecutors and police officers how to testify in DWI jury trials. But the true measure of his ability comes not from schools or seminars. It comes from the thousands of hours spent in courtrooms, in front of juries, conducting trials.
Putting this DWI knowledge to work for clients
In January of 2010, Brock Duke made the decision to stop putting criminals in prison and to start defending the rights of those accused of a crime.
The invaluable experience, knowledge, skills and education acquired as a criminal prosecutor sets Brock Duke apart from other criminal defense lawyers.
Brock understands the differences between the practices of law in rural east Texas, conservative north Dallas and Collin County, and the big cities of Fort Worth and Dallas. As an Assistant District Attorney for over six (6) years, all day every day was spent preparing, planning, strategizing, and anticipating the outcome of jury trials. That type of knowledge cannot be learned, bought, or given. It can only be gained through experience.
If arrested for DWI, The Law Office of Brock Duke offers skilled DWI defense that other DWI attorneys cannot. As an Assistant District Attorney, Brock Duke received specialized training in the examination of expert witnesses regarding field sobriety testing, breath test procedures, blood testing procedures and drug testing procedures. This training was made available exclusively to DWI prosecutors working in the District Attorney’s Office. How is this beneficial to DWI clients? It is helpful in that Brock Duke has inside knowledge of DWI prosecution.
The Law Office of Brock Duke will attack a DWI case from a prosecutor’s perspective. Brock Duke and his team will visit the scene of the DWI and gather their own photos and video. Unlike police photos and video taken at night when the DWI occurred, our imagery will show the scene during the daytime. This will offer a more accurate and realistic view of what actually occurred when the client was arrested for DWI. On-scene investigation by a knowledgeable DWI lawyer can and usually does mean the difference in a case being dismissed or a jury finding a DWI client not guilty.
Brock Duke understands how police and prosecuting attorneys prepare criminal DWI cases. But more importantly, he knows how even the most talented DWI prosecuting attorney can “lose” a jury trial. A very small percentage of all criminal defense lawyers in Texas bring this type of knowledge and insight to their clients.
If you are charged with a crime, do you want your future in the hands of just any criminal defense attorney? Or would you rather hire someone with the knowledge, skills, and background who knows firsthand how the game is played and won?
